Cannes Cannes
The lush film festival is in mid-swing and is once again pleasing the crowds with star-saturated events, controversial cinema and enough glamour to get us giddy. The film festival’s on from 15-26 May and is celebrating its 61st year as one of the hottest dates on the film calendar.
One thing that cannot be disputed is that, to quote Hilary Alexander, Cannes has become a ‘fashionarama’. People are no longer just interested in the dress, but all the accessories from the shoes to the jewellery as more niche, unsung designers get to share the spotlight.
ABCnews is calling it Cannes-gelina, as she’s appeared in an array of radiant and stylish preggy outfits while expecting twins (confirmed thanks to Jack Black who gave the game away on live telly). One in particular that showed off her baby bump was a flowing olive-green Max Azaria empire-line gown.
Apart from all the glamour and a better dress spread than the Oscars, what I love about Cannes is seeing mass media films like Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda sidling up next to International art films like Three Monkeys and Blindness. There’s something humbling about that which reminds us that all films are a work of art, and it’s okay to have different opinions of them. Any films you can’t wait to see?
