Everyone, watch your calories today! Scientists have shown that today is the second most calorific day of the year, after Christmas Day… Er, hello, what has everyone been doing since Easter? Personally, I am still in the process of demolishing three Easter eggs.
The thinking behind the pigging out is: lots of choccie lying around after Easter, and today is the mid-point between ditching the New Year diet and starting the summer one - we’re just not worried enough about the fat pads bulging around the bikini yet.
“How can we beat this day”, I hear you cry? Simple, just follow some of my top tips, picked up from the internet today*:
1/ Consume fewer calories than you expend.
Not exactly rocket science, but good advice all the same. Men require about 2000 calories, women 1600.
2/ Exercise
This helps increase your energy expenditure.
My interesting point to remember is that just existing consumes about 1300 calories (your basal metabolic rate), so don’t feel you need to burn 1600 calories in a gym session!
3/ Eat breakfast
Kick start your metabolism for the day by burning energy at a faster rate.
4/ Get enough sleep
Tiredness in the day means you are more likely to turn to quick energy fixes (sugar and caffeine).
Ta da, it’s not going to set the world alight, but approaching weight loss with a sensible, sustainable attitude might just mean that diets are less painful and more likely to succeed.
So just to spite the fat day, today I plan to gym it, after I have eaten the chocolate raisins in my drawer (part of my 5 a day for fruit though – winner!).
