Best Dressed Men - 2008

Monday, April 28th, 2008

We all know how we would ‘like’ our men to dress, but the chances are they are more likely to grott around in their jeans and sloppy tee-shirts then a super stylish Giorgio Armani or Lyle and Scott piece.

Well, with the GQ ‘Best Dressed Man’ list 08 being published this month, it may give your man a much required kick start to his fashion sense. So here are the big runners, past and present, in this interesting / ever inspiring list of best-dressed men, this side of mars:

2002/03/04 – David Beckham of Armani and “apparently” football fame (This boy wonder scored a double with the confusing status of 6th best and 9th worst in the 2008 listings).

2005 - Rio Ferdinand – Not too sure about this wild card, but with earnings of over £100k a week, you would think he can afford some style, maybe?

2006 - Clive Owen – There’s a stylish aura about this man, that Lancome and Tag Heuer have also noticed.

2007 - Daniel Craig – 007 in 2007 – Sorry couldn’t help myself!

No. 3James McAvoy – it appears starring alongside the luminous Miss Knightley and being spotted in oodles of Gucci and Armani is a sure fire way to get you noticed in the fashion stakes.

No. 2Daniel Day Lewis – Spotted in Paul Smith when he picked up his Best Actor Oscar this year, this seasoned thespian keeps ahead of the crowd.

No.1 - Daniel Craig – Reclaiming his 2007 ‘Best Dressed’ crown, this 007 slickster can’t seem to help himself when it comes to looking good. Having been spotted in Dunhill for the Baftas and Tom Ford on set – it’s obviously down to the clothing!

Milan Fashion Week…

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

If Africa is the cradle of civilization then Italy is without doubt, the cradle of fashion and it was the ever luminous, Giorgio Armani who kick-started the Milan Fashion Week (A/W 08) with his younger, street savvy Emporio collection.

Black but by no means gothic, Armani displayed a seriously sensual  collection that continuously flattered the female silhouette. Crushed velvets in mink and chocolate browns, set the tone, with high waisted trousers and silk shirts further more setting the expected high standard of the week.

Gianfranco Ferre, the first collection since the passing of it’s namesake proved an exciting one. Femininity was key as sharp tailoring, pretty statement pieces and unusual flowing fabrics embodied modern prettiness - although word on the street is that Chief Designer Lars Nilsson has been dropped by the label a mere 5 months after Ferre’s death.

D&G by Dolce & Gabbana had our sovereign in mind with their A/W 08 collection. The Queens favourites, tartan, plaid and complete with ‘heraldic’ scarves tied under the chin saw D&G take the audience on a highland romp through next season.

Moschino certainly didn’t disappoint, with a collection that appeared to have perfectly blended military might with cheeky 20’s flapper girl. Bows and ruffles on sharp tailored trench coats completed a striking collection with a Royal blue embellished short dress complete with blue tights seriously standing out.
