The week in bargains
Bargainistas of the week: everyone on this year’s Vanity Fair Best-Dressed List, who were asked for their favourite places to bag a bargain. No suprises that Michelle Obama nominated J Crew, while Princess Letizia of Asturias opted for Zara, Mango and Massimo Dutti.- Miss Thrifty finds Bill Amberg Penguin classics for a snip – £6 to be precise.
- Partywear from across the pond (right): Celebs (OK, American reality TV star Vanessa Simmons) step out in nothing more fancy than American Apparel jumpsuits, reports The Cheap Chica.
- Marie Claire likes Angelina in leather this week; we’ve found lots of leather skirts in Oxfam’s online shop to give the look a whirl.
- Travel news: best bargains to be had in Durban, from South African stylist Pippa Lynch.

Bargainista of the week

Our celeb bargainista of the week is teen country music sensation Taylor Swift (above, pictured at the Hannah Montana movie premiere last month). She gets country blog The Boot’s seal of approval for her keeping her prices affordable, with her own label sundresses retailing for just $14 and plenty of concert seats for $20.
And despite riding high at number 4 in the Forbes list of the highest-earning country music stars last year, she loves to shop the UK high street too: this week’s Look magazine features her French Connection fairytale skirt, £55.

Space age steals
No sooner had the Star Trek movie enjoyed its UK premiere last week than Kate Moss turned up at the Forevermark White Light diamonds bash in this decidedly Trekkie Balmain number. The space age look is a trend all right; here’s how to boldly go into spring/summer for less.
At koodos: Elsom’s sequin kimono or Beatrix Ong’s black boot with silver piping (reduced by over 40 per cent, right) will give your wardrobe a space age flavour.- Oasis has a silver shift dress, £65, that’s just the thing for a starship trooper.
- Pair a shift dress with Jonathan Aston’s 40 denier tights (on special offer at Tights Please) in silver or white; or, for more coverage, Tabio’s 80 denier tights in white.
- Try American Apparel for unitards, shiny leggings and zip-up shiny bodies.
- For the brave: Topshop’s silver sequin hotpants, £25. Less scary worn over black opaques, perhaps.
