One of the truly original designers, Balenciaga has been decorating women in his ultra innovative, fabulous fashion designs for nearly a century. The epitome of Spanish style, Cristobal Balenciaga first found fame when he would stylishly dress the Spanish royal family.
A designer with flare for fluidity, Balenciaga style and aptitude for creating breathtaking female fashion designs catapulted his work into the mainstream of European fashion. Famed for his love of the female shape, dresses, skirts, suits, coats and even handbags were designed with unusual shapes and cuts (Balloon skirt / Sack dress), which the Spanish fashion house is still famous for today.
The Parisian exhibited, Sping/Summer 08 collection by Balenciaga has been no exception when it comes to women's fashion, drama, original flare and style. After a phenomenally successful A/W 07 collection of quirky blazers and flattering jodhpurs, Creative Director Nicholas Ghesqiuere likes to keep you on your toes with a contemporary S/S 08 collection being compiled of futuristic dresses and stunning shimmering suits all complete with lace up knee high ‘mod’ boots. The Spanish influence is seen throughout the collection with brightly coloured floral patterning on the dresses and suits, reminding you of the brands colourful heritage.
Balenciaga's ability to recreate a cacophony of influences and styles was seen again with savvy clothing and fashion blends. By blending sports wear with uniform wear, with masculine and feminine over tones, Balenciaga makes you think when you wear his creations.
And with this winters hottest fashion accessory being 'attitude' Balenciaga does not fail to live up to the requirements. Finally, Christian Dior called Balenciaga 'the master of us all' - how indeed can you argue with that?
