When you think of ultimate Parisian style and fashion prowess there is only one name that springs to mind - Yves St Laurent.
YSL is a fashion powerhouse; launched in 1962, YSL embodies power suit sexiness. Proud, dynamic and self-assured, YSL designs have been delighting dedicated followers of fashion for generations and has no intention of slowing down. Sadly the brands founder and namesake, Yves Saint Laurent died in 2008, leaving a fashion legacy and some exquisitely designed shoes to fill.
Despite his passing, YSL designer fashion keeps you on your toes with a cacophony of androgynous designs coupled with sleek, elegant effeminate layers - nothing is ever as it seems at an YSL show.
The current designer at the YSL helm is Stefano Pilati, whose appetite to continue the characteristic labels iconic image has been a great success. Pilati has shied away from tampering with a design formula that clearly works, ensuring that YSL designs, for a new generation, have not lost its identity.
YSL has always been a designer to reckon with - progressive and inspirational his designs have won him a legion of fans, from his infamous ‘muse’ Betty Catroux, whom he called his 'soul mate' to a more modern A-list aficionado, including the likes of Renée Zellweger, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gisele Bündchen.
YSL designs have always had a unique, refined sense of style - from the innovative invention of the 'beatnik' look to the masterful creation of the infamous 'Le Smoking' suit in 1966, that quite literally redefined fashion for women.
YSL's influence can be felt far and wide within the fashion world, YSL almost single-handedly helped different generations break down social conventions with his advanced, assertive fashion designs.
It’s sad to realise fashion is now without YSL – but imagine where we would have been without him.
