As Chairman and CEO, Robin led the building of Innovations, the £40m catalogue brand. Innovations was the first UK company to transact with consumers on the web. Robin is currently non-exec Chairman of Agent Provocateur, a leading luxury lingerie brand and has previously been on the boards of a number of market-leading brands including Sit-up TV, Video Island, online DVD rental and Zoom.co.uk, the fashion portal for the Arcadia Group.
Miriam's words to live by:
"Hope is the companion of power and the mother of success, for those of us who hope strongest have within us the gift of miracles." - Sydney Bremer
Considering Miriam's unfaltering ambition and innovation, it's not surprising that she was once a fashion buyer in Los Angeles, hob-nobbing with the stars. Since then she has spent over 20 years at the TJX Inc. companies, where she was most recently Vice President of the two eCommerce divisions. Her fashion experience gave her the crucial edge in a very competitive market, and she moved from Boston to London with an ambitious vision and started koodos. Being the wife of a clergyman, she set up koodos with the highest principles, injecting her experience, enthusiasm and firm morals into the business. She now inspires her team to nurture a growing company and encourages each member to challenge themselves in the process. And like a mother might watch over her child, she keeps an eye on all that changes and evolves from day-to-day within the fashion and Web environments that surround koodos.
Gabriela's words to live by:
"Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination." - Oscar Wilde
As dedicated a person as Gabriela was growing up, she would never eat her greens. It was only at the age of 23 that she finally let vegetables pass her lips. Despite the lag in her 5-a-day, it seems she extracted brainpower and strength from other means to allow her to head up and efficiently manage koodos operations. Before koodos she worked for Amazon for eight years, most recently as Electronics Director for the entire UK operation. Prior to Amazon she was at Boston Consulting Group for five years where she initiated numerous strategy projects across different sectors including retail. With this substantial experience under her belt, she leads all major operations for the company and ensures that we stick to a strict programme. Her Spanish enthusiasm ensures she is always on track with our next move, and her recent addition of vegetables to her diet means she gets all the nutrients she needs.
Gwan's words to live by:
"Look what it does to a penny!" - Barry Scott
Being an online enterprise, koodos is always chased by the clock. When we are releasing a Private Sale, it often involves pulling together numerous segments to create a whole. Gwan is the one who efficiently creates each segment, be it capturing the essence of koodos in imagery around the site or ensuring that each product is fully detailed for the public's information. As a recent graduate, prior to koodos Gwan was enjoying life, working in bars and travelling. Now he claims to be enjoying life, working for koodos and reading women's fashion magazines.
Emily's words to live by:
"You have to eat a lot of cereal to get a free toy." - Anon
Starting off at a very young age as a ferry conductor at the Johannesburg Zoo, there was no telling where her career would lead her. Although that was a rather worrying start for her parents. But it seemed her passion for the written word overruled her love of four-legged creatures and so it was that she came to be the copywriter for koodos. Before koodos she worked as a copywriter for Brand Activation 141, Ogilvy Johannesburg as well as numerous other character-building roles from apple-picking to English teaching. She seems to be content as a member of the koodos team and endeavours to write them into the hearts and minds of their clients.
Martin's words to live by:
"Everything changes, nothing remains without change." - Buddha
As Vice President of Engineering, Martin is responsible for ensuring that the entire technology side of koodos is coordinated properly, which with an online company, means quite a lot of organising. Perhaps his knack in problem-solving comes from sharing a house with one wife (a vet), two dogs, five cats, and numerous fish. His experience spills over ten years of managing development teams and running 24/7 services. Most recently, Martin was the Vice President of Engineering for Digital Rum, which delivered award-winning services to Argos, HMV and BAA. This has adequately equipped him to head up the technology team within koodos, and after a challenging day at work he has plenty of "family" at home to recharge him for a new day.
James" words to live by:
"Nothing off-roads like a rent-a-car" - Anon
Whilst most of us have gotten lost in Sainsbury's, James has been lost on the streets of Hanoi late at night. Enjoying the challenge of start-up companies, he became Head of Production for Venda and moved to set up their offices in Hanoi and Mumbai. Following that, he launched the eSpares site, which worked with major retail brands, such as Argos, Comet, Empire Direct, before founding the initial team that brought koodos to life in 2005. Despite his various homes, he has moved back to the UK, possibly swayed by his unfaltering support for Arsenal. He is now an active part of another new venture and challenge, and is committed to ensuring koodos is alive and well on the Internet, thriving on the newest technologies as and when they emerge.
Dan's words to live by:
"Everything starts as somebody's daydream." - Larry Niven
If you asked Dan what he loved, it wouldn"t be "coding", his flair with Photoshop, or even his Apple Mac. It would be Suzie. Indeed the little black ball of kitten fluff won his heart, but there's still plenty of room in there for his role at koodos, and a little more still for the rockabilly band he plays for in Brighton. Before joining koodos he was a lead programmer for a small web agency, and prior to that was a freelancer. When all of us have a vision, he is the one that puts it together, decorates it and makes it possible.
Andy's words to live by:
"Plus est en Vous" - Anon
With origins of fish farming in Scotland to sailing around the world and working in Zambia, Andy has come across many varied and undoubtedly interesting people. His encounters have given him insight to understanding people from all backgrounds - which is rather good considering he is the one who maintains favourable relationships with our customers. Before koodos, he was the operations manager for a safari company in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. He brings his cultivated experience in managing operations to koodos to aid in the smooth flow of products through the website and ensuring our customers are each given individual attention.
Rahima's words to live by:
"Never walk on the travelled path, because it only leads you to where the others have been." - Anon
Some people might liken the process of "winning new clients over" to a journey. Well with her hitch-hiking in Turkey, bungee-jumping in France and hailing from Canada, Rahima's fully accustomed to dealing with journeys. And between the highlights, she's gained experience in strategic commercial roles across FMCG, retail, online and technology industries from companies like Proctor and Gamble and most recently Dell. And the fact that she can speak six-and-a-half languages makes her role in communications essential to koodos. This, combined with a confident approach to top designers, is what allows us to feature so many of the top brands on our website.
